New ARPES electron analyzer from SPECS: ASTRAIOS 190 2D-CMOS

SPECS has launched a completely new cutting-edge analyzer concept for ARPES in spring 2019. Find details and technical specifications summarized on our product page. In summary the ASTRAIOS is based on an entirely new lens concept that focuses on superior momentum (of course also angle) - and energy resolution. Different lens modes for different acceptance angles (up to ±30°) give our customer the possibility to choose the perfect combination of field-of-view in k-space and resolution. In all modes the ASTRAIOS delivers superior performance to all existing analyzer concepts in the field. Here, we show an exemplary simulation result for a ±20° acceptance angle lens mode.

The ASTRAIOS gives access to a k-range of ± 1 Å-1 for HeI excitation due to its ±30° acceptance angle. With the newly developed single spot parallel shifting lens a mapping in kx and ky over the entire acceptance angle is possible without moving the sample. The electron trajectories are bended in the Gaussian image plane by an octupol electrode resulting in a shift of the momentum image.
